How to get paid to take care of a family member with a disability

If your family member with a disability qualifies for Medicaid home and community-based services, many states let them, or their representative, hire a relative as a paid caregiver through self-directed care.12 If they are a Veteran with a VA disability rating of 70% or higher who needs personal care, VA PCAFC may pay a monthly stipend to a Primary Family Caregiver.3 Medicare generally does not pay family caregivers.4 Rules for spouses and parents of minor children vary by state.
